Educational Outreach:
Efforts to provide presentations, lectures and inspiration to students of
all ages is crucial to the focus of Voyage to the Bay 2006. The
expedition members come from a broad range of experience that includes
outdoor educators, professors, elementary teachers, artists and musicians.
The common theme is that all are involved on a daily basis with their local communities as educators and resources.
Specific methods that Voyage to the Bay will use include the following:
 | Environmental education programs for local schools |
 | Partnership with local schools through developing a curriculum concept
that will students to follow the expedition and discover the human and
natural history of the regions through which we will be traveling |
 | Providing presentations in classrooms about the expedition, Canada's
history, Boreal Forest ecology, outdoor recreation and following your
dreams |
 | Post-trip presentations for naturalist clubs, recreation groups,
community organizations, historical societies, schools and universities (Presentation
Schedule) |
 | Working with broadcasters such as the Australian Broadcasting
Corporation that has agreed to cover the expedition via the satellite phone
connection |
 | Publication submissions to newspapers, magazines, newsletters and
websites |
Curriculum Development
We are currently developing a curriculum supplement that will enable
students and teachers to follow the progress of Voyage to the Bay across the
Prairie Provinces of Canada. Through lesson suggestions, webquests,
resource materials and frequent updates to our website, students will be able
to explore the following topics through the experiences of the expedition
members.
